Two years ago, Councillor Gerard Hargreaves was sworn in as the new Mayor of Kensington and Chelsea. One of his first decisions as the new Mayor was to appoint Glass Door as his mayoral charity, and when he was re-elected in 2021, he confirmed his commitment to support the homelessness charity for a second term.

“It has been a great privilege to support Glass Door Homeless Charity as the Mayor’s Charity over the past two years."

I would like to thank the Glass Door team and everyone who has supported our fundraising over my Mayoral terms. Your generosity helps Glass Door, who are an integral part of the life of Kensington and Chelsea, to provide vital support to people in the borough who are experiencing homelessness.

 - Cllr Gerard Hargreaves

During his two terms as Mayor, Glass Door and the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea have organised several events together, bringing together their communities to raise funds and awareness of homelessness in London. The Mayor and his team also participated in Glass Door’s annual Sleep Out in 2020 and 2021.

Thanks to the Mayor, as well as his generous supporters, a total of £53,545.50 has been raised in aid of Glass Door, at events like an Afternoon Tea and Spring Raffle, and Christmas Carols. These vital funds have helped Glass Door to maintain and adapt their essential casework service and emergency winter accommodation during the challenging years of the coronavirus pandemic.  Over the past two year’s Glass Door’s support has been more important than ever for people experiencing homelessness in Kensington and Chelsea and across London, and helped the most vulnerable in our community to get off – and stay off the streets.

We’re immensely grateful for Cllr Gerard Hargreaves and his team’s support since 2020. It has been a fantastic collaboration. Thanks to the Mayor’s kindness and generosity, we have raised vital funds and awareness to keep helping people experiencing homelessness off the streets for good during challenging times.
