Glass Door proudly won this season’s final Chelsea Foundation online charity poll, allowing us to hold a bucket collection on 22 April inside the grounds of the Chelsea Football Stadium before the home match against Burnley.

Thousands participated in the online poll, with Glass Door coming out on top. A call was put out to volunteers to help on the day, and the first dozen respondents joined together on Easter Monday to raise awareness and funds.

Volunteer fundraisers discuss their motivation for helping out on the day:

Paul Jackson said:

I see first hand what a difference it makes. To collect money to pay for those shelters to feed our guests, it's an easy two hours to give up.

Eddie Newton, former Chelsea FC midfielder, had volunteered at the Chelsea Methodist Church Drop-in last December. After the experience, he said:

These things touch me, there are too many young people here which really surprised me and is something no one likes to see so it is important as a community we do our bit.

Thanks to everyone involved, we managed to raise £953.64 to help support homeless people in London.

The amount raised could cover the cost of more than 41 homeless people sleeping safely and warmly for a night in our shelters, Chief Operating Officer Lucy Abraham points out.

Lucy adds:

As a local charity working every day to help hundreds of local people find a path out of homelessness, we know what a difference having a strong community makes. Thank you to all the volunteers and the Chelsea fans who helped raise funds on the day.
