December 2017: When Khalsa Primary pupils put together 'bags of warmth' to give to Glass Door homeless guests this Christmas, several local papers -- including the Slough Observer, the Slough Express, the Maidenhead Advertiser and Bracknell News -- reported on the generous donation. 

Every year, we receive donations from several sources, which we then redistribute as gifts to our homeless guests over Christmas. One regular donor had to pull out this year last minute, and we turned to our friends at the international relief organisation Khalsa Aid to see if they could help fill the gap. Khalsa Aid, which is founded on the Sikh principles of selfless service and universal love, has long been a supporter of Glass Door and the Chelsea Methodist Church drop-in. Khalsa Aid volunteers regularly organise donations of clothes, sleeping bags and other supplies.

Khalsa Aid thought it would be a good opportunity to get the younger generation involved, and asked pupils at Khalsa Primary School if they would like to put together the 100 ‘bags of warmth’.

Bags were filled with items including, hats, gloves, thermal socks, lip balm, hand sanitiser, wipes, chocolate and sleeping bags.

A team from Khalsa Aid also stepped forward to volunteer this Christmas eve.
