Gloria Gardner has been recognised for her voluntary work with Glass Door and Under One Sky during the pandemic, through the receipt of a Mayor's Award from the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

Each year, the Mayor's Awards are given to recognise people who have gone above and beyond to serve the community and who have made a significant difference to the lives of the borough's residents.

Not only has Gloria been a volunteer cook at the night shelter run in partnership with Chelsea Methodist Church for many years, she was also instrumental in a Covid-19 emergency food initiative, which Glass Door helped to launch in partnership with Under One Sky. This past winter, Gloria again stepped up to support the Chelsea dinner service, which has provided hot meals to those in need every night since November 2020.

"I am delighted to have received a Mayor's Award," Gloria said upon hearing the news. She added:

A mountain of people came together every day for seven days a week, making hundreds of sandwiches and cakes. We will continue to help those in need.

The award ceremony takes place virtually on 25 March 2021
