Each venue has its own team of volunteers who prepare food, set up the eating area, assist on the door, serve food, chat with guests, wash dishes and tidy up before the guests get ready for bed.  We are currently recruiting a volunteer coordinators, cooks and general shelter volunteers:

  • Volunteer Coordinators: create rotas and lead the volunteer team at our night shelter venue in Earl’s Court on Monday nights from 4 November until 30 March. If interested, please read the Volunteer Coordinator role description.

  • Cooks:  If you are happy in a kitchen and could make a tasty and nutritious meal for about 40 people, we would love to hear from you. You would have at least one other volunteer helping chop and prepare the food. We’re looking for people with a passion for cooking who can regularly commit a few hours in the evening, from 5/6pm until 9pm. If you already have a Level 2 Food Safety certificate, even better, but we would help you obtain one otherwise. We need cooks for shelters based in two different locations:
    • Monday evenings in Earl’s Court (St Cuthbert's). You do not need to be free every Monday.
    • Wednesday evenings at a shelter in East Acton (St Kat's Westway).
    • Sunday night 10 November in Barnes.

  • Shelter Volunteer: Earl's Court and East Acton shelters are also looking for general shelter volunteers. While some of our Other shelter venues may also need volunteers, usually, it is at the venue's discretion when and how they recruit new volunteers. Please note we sometimes find ourselves in the fortunate position of having more individuals who would like to volunteer than the venues can accommodate.

If you’re interested in any of these role or have any questions, please read the Night Shelter Volunteer role description and then contact [email protected] with the evenings you’re available and geographic area where you would be able to volunteer. If we are unable to place you in a shelter volunteer role, we would still love your help in another way and will let you know how you can do this.
