Summer Appeal Donate to our Summer Appeal Donate Our Winter Night Shelters are closed for the season, but the work doesn’t end there. Night shelters provide life-saving emergency support for those who need it most, but alone, they might not be enough. Just a few weeks ago, we met with a young guest to hear about his story of staying in our Night Shelters for three weeks over winter. Samir* worked with his Caseworker who prevented him from having to sleep on the streets. Now, he has a home. The first time I met my Caseworker, Haley, I could just tell from the way that she was speaking and the feeling I got from her that she was the one that was going to help me. – Samir, Glass Door guest Help a guest like Samir find a home Our night shelters are simply the start of each guest’s journey out of homelessness – everyone’s journey is different. For one guest, it might be that referral to a specialist mental health professional that provides stability and support. Or it might be that 60+ Oyster card that helps them attend GP appointments and house viewings that form critical milestones in their journey out of homelessness. For another guest, it might be that crucial “move-on” package of personalised support sessions and a deposit top-up that means they can finally afford to move into accommodation of their own. These are just a few examples of support and advocacy that Caseworkers provide, and there's no doubt that accessing Casework support can change lives. Will you help a guest on their journey out of homelessness? £35 could provide three personalised advice sessions with a caseworker, giving someone the support they need to move beyond homelessness. £60 could provide language interpretation for 3 guests to be able to access casework support. £115 could provide ten new guests with an initial advice session from our caseworkers at one of our partner daytime centres. £242 could fund a "move-on" package with personalised support sessions and a deposit top-up to help someone move into stable accommodation. Glass Door is like the light at the end of a tunnel. I found someone that would push me into the light, because before it was very dark. My life starts now. – Samir, Glass Door guest Every step that our guests and Caseworkers take together finds them closer to a future away from homelessness.
