About us Publications Reports Reports Supporting women experiencing homelessness, 2024-25 A report highlighting our gender-informed services and spaces for women At Glass Door Homeless Charity, holding space for women and delivering services with a gender-informed approach is crucial to supporting women on their route out of homelessness. Our 2023-24 Winter Night Shelter season saw the very first Women’s Shelter, and we ran it successfully for the second year running last winter. The demand for spaces in the shelter was consistently high, mirroring the increasing need for gender-specific support. From our Women’s Shelter stemmed a weekly drop-in casework service for our women guests who preferred a 1-to-1 service in a single gender space. In 2024-25 we supported 693 women through our casework service, and 753 women overall across our services. This is the second time we’ve published a Women’s Services Report to spotlight the importance of our women’s spaces and services. It reflects on the experiences of, and challenges faced by, our women guests and caseworkers, and celebrates the positive outcomes of the hard work they achieved together. It spotlights our unique data and accomplishments across the organisation whilst also painting a picture of the challenges we are up against on the frontline. Between 1 June 2024 and 31 May 2025, we provided support to 2,524 guests across West and South West London. That’s an 8% increase on the previous year. Over the year, we supported 2,365 guests through our Casework Service, and for the second year in a row, this included a large number of newly recognised refugees who were experiencing homelessness having been evicted from Home Office accommodation. This cohort of guests also intersected with another demographic on the rise – under 35’s experiencing homelessness. You can read more about the unique challenges these demographics face in the report. Our Emergency Winter Night Shelters ran for five months, from November to April. The season included, for the second year running, a Women’s Shelter and dedicated Women’s Casework Drop-in. This provision is an example of our continuous journey towards delivering gender-informed services. Throughout this report, we're marking 25 years of operating as a charity in a city with a growing housing and homelessness crisis. From opening our first Night Shelters in 1999, to launching our Mailbox Service this year, you can find out how we’ve grown and evolved over the years, thanks to your support and collaboration.
