Glass Door has been shortlisted in three categories for this year's Charity Times Awards. We are among the finalists for Charity of the Year with an income of £1 million to £10 million, PR Team of the Year and Rising Leader of the Year for CEO Lucy Abraham.

The Charity Times Awards celebrate best practice in the UK charity and not-for-profit sector.

Charity of the Year

We have been shortlisted as Charity of the Year for the expansion of our services in response to the increase in rough sleeping in London and the heightened demand for a safe place to sleep. Thanks to more sleeping spaces and casework programmes, a record number of individuals were able to find shelter and move beyond homelessness in the past year. As one guest put it: “Glass Door saves lives. They saved my life”.

Rising Leader of the Year

CEO Lucy Abraham has been recognised for her outstanding leadership despite her short tenure in the sector. As well as keeping the team motivated and focused through a period of growth, Lucy proved her leadership credentials during the COVID-19 pandemic. She was one of the first to recognise and call out the dangers of shared space shelters and brought the team together to push for safe spaces for homeless people to self-isolate. Her actions contributed to saving the lives of hundreds if not thousands.

PR Team of the Year

We are finalists in the category of PR Team of the Year in recognition of our work to highlight the issue of street homelessness in the media. Our communications team of two generated 141 pieces of media coverage in the recent financial year across international print and broadcast media, helping raise the profile of Glass Door and generating new supporters.

The shortlist

We were honoured to be chosen as finalists alongside many much larger charities on the shortlist such as Plan International, Dogs Trust and WaterAid. To read the full shortlist, visit www.charitytimesawards.com

The winners in all categories will be announced in a virtual awards ceremony on 3 September 2020.

Continued award success

This shortlisting follows our award success last year where we won the Community Collaboration award at the inaugural Chelsea Awards and were shortlisted for a Community Impact award by the Charity Today Awards.

We were also shortlisted for the Homeless Link Awards 2019 in the category of Promoting partnerships and collaborative working
