Unite for the Night: Sleep Out to end homelessness

On Friday 4th October 2024, join us for the 12th annual Glass Door Sleep Out to raise vital funds and awareness to help us end homelessness in London.

We'd love for you to sign up for one of the limited spots at Duke of York Square in Chelsea or gather your friends, family or colleagues at a location of your preference anywhere around the globe. Book a place below now!

We ask that you aim to raise at least £500, if you raise even more that’s fantastic. Don’t worry if that seems a little daunting, the Fundraising Team will be here to give you tips and support the whole time. Once you've registered below, we will send you the link to create a fundraising page in Just Giving.

What happens at Sleep Out?

At Duke of York Square, sleepers begin to arrive at 8pm and find somewhere to bed down for the night.

The Glass Door team are on hand to provide hot drinks and snacks and help everyone settle in.

There will be a voluntary activity at 9pm to learn more about Glass Door and homelessness in London lead by front line workers.

While Sleep Out doesn't aim to replicate homelessness, by sleeping out you will get a glimpse into some of the things people experience when they are rough sleeping - such as cold temperatures, noises, and uncomfortable and limited sleep.

By 11 pm most people are beginning to get some sleep. At 5am sleepers are gently roused from their slumber by the aroma of the fresh bacon and vegan bacon sandwiches provided by our friends at Partridges.

After a massive thank you from the Glass Door team and an update on the fundraising total, everything must be packed up by 6am.

Sleep Out Remotely

Don't worry if you cannot make to Duke of York Square because you can do your own Sleep Out anywhere in the world! Choose to sleep somewhere else within your home by sleeping outside in your garden. If you are planning on holding your Sleep Out in a space outside your home (church, community centre or work) please make sure you have permission from those responsible for the building. We do not recommend sleeping outdoors in a public space.

The Glass Door Team will always be there to support your fundraising journey and tips on how to host a Sleep Out. For more information about health and safety please check our Guide.

One of our supporters that took part in Sleep Out 2023 said:

"What I liked most about Sleep Out was getting even a tiny glimpse of what it is like to be on the streets at night - the need for companionship and safety, the hardness of the ground, the bugs that share our sleeping bag - and being able to give even a tiny something to help get people off the streets."

Why should you to take part in Sleep Out?

Homelessness is on the rise in London and the cost-of-living crisis continues to intensify, putting more people at risk of homelessness.

By raising funds for Glass Door, we can help someone find a route out of homelessness by providing them with shelter, support from our expert Caseworkers, and the opportunity to either prevent homelessness or permanently leave the streets behind.

Wherever you decide to join us, we look forward to Uniting For The Night - to ensure we can support anyone who walks through our doors in finding a route out of homelessness for good.

Grab your friends, family, congregation or colleagues and sign up now!
