In 2019, the government committed to ending rough sleeping by 2024. As the recent Kerslake Commission’s recent report found, we are sadly not on track to meet this target. For World Homeless Day, Liam Geraghty from the Big Issue wrote an article assessing the reasons why this is the case, quoting representatives from various charities.

Neil, Glass Door’s co-head of casework, was one of those quoted. Discussing people who are in the category of having No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF), Neil said the following:

Even though Everyone In did not continue after pandemic restrictions were lifted, there have been some lasting positive steps for this group in terms of improved pathways for immigration advice. Nonetheless, for rough sleeping among this section of the population to really be tackled, it would have required more housing options for those in the process of having their immigration status resolved.
