12 Dec 2017: Asena Degirmenci reports on what charities and homeless shelters, like Glass Door, are doing to prepare for the coldest time of the year:

“Glass Door prepares for winter all year round. We work with churches to see where we can host shelters. We get the word out to individuals about where they can go to volunteer. We organise the meals, the sleeping bags, the building insurance, hire staff, find cooks, hire cleaners, and spread the word,” says Melissa Kerschen, communications manager at Glass Door Homeless Charity.

People are also kind enough to donate clothes, towels and food, and much needed funds. “Churches need support from organisations like ours. We give them the equipment that enables them to look after the most vulnerable in our communities,” continues Kerschen.
